This class is designed to meet the Occupational Safety & Health Administrations (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910.174 for Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT). PIT’s can also be known as forklifts, however, not all PIT’s have forks. They can range from narrow-aisle forklifts, straight-mast forklifts, Telehandler or Skytrack forklifts, even electric-motor rider trucks. This course will give students the fundamentals of forklifts as well as safe operational practices. In addition, the course will cover truck-related topics such as differences from an automobile, controls, and instrumentation, and steering and maneuvering, to name a few. Workplace-related topics include: surface conditions, load manipulation, and pedestrian traffic, as well as other required topics by OSHA. Students who complete this course will receive a Powered Industrial Truck-classroom certificate of completion. This is not the same as a PIT Certification. In order to receive a PIT Certification, students must successfully demonstrate proper operation of the Powered Industrial Truck they will be operating on-the-job and pass the evaluation. Evaluations will be scheduled and paid for separately from this class. Certifications are not transferrable from employer to employer and are given via the student’s current employer, not CV Tech.
