CHICKASHA – Canadian Valley Technology Center’s Gay Pettit is one of five finalists for a national career guidance award.

Pettit, of Alex, is the career and educational support counselor at CV Tech. Each year, the Association for Career and Technology Education (ACTE) selects finalists in seven award categories. Winners are announced Nov. 28 at a conference in San Antonio. Oklahoma City-based Express Employment Professionals is one of the key sponsors for the event.

Pettit has served as an educator for 34 years. She created the Mentor Match program, which pairs area industry experts with students for on-job, real-world experiences in a variety of workplace environments.

“Being employed by Canadian Valley Technology Center has afforded me the opportunity to serve students and make a difference in their lives,” Pettit said.

She added that the Mentor Match program is a team effort between CV Tech instructors and Industry mentors, who are supported by the school’s administration and the CV Tech Foundation Board of Trustees.
