The Medical Assistant program at CVTech prepares students to assist physicians and other healthcare providers in a medical office or clinic setting. Some of the core courses include CPR, First Aid, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and an introduction to medical assisting.
More specialized courses include pharmacology (including administering oral, topical and injectable medicines) and clinical procedures for selected disorders of each body system. Some of the independent procedures the medical assistant performs include taking vital signs, obtaining a medical history, and measuring height and weight. The medical assistant will also assist the physician with minor office surgeries. In addition, students will learn how to obtain and prepare blood samples for testing, how to perform point of care diagnostic testing, and executing quality control on the testing equipment. **For high school students: This program requires that a student has already completed Health Careers CNA.
Please note: * Drug screen required before clinical rotation
Prerequisite: National Background Check required upon enrollment. Clinical component is required and scheduled per instructor. Part-time and full-time schedules available. Financial aid available to those who qualify. Call to speak to our Full-Time Program Counselor for more information.
