Teams ruled the day at national contests held recently across the county for Canadian Valley Technology Center students.
The three-person high school team of Lauren Toska, Emma Price and Samantha Martin won a national gold for their Focus-on-Children project at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Seattle.
The CV Tech team of Jayden Raskin, Amber Burney and Samantha Bourland won a national silver medal, as did Mallory Righter in the Early Childhood category at the same contest.
Full-time students are encouraged to participate in Career Tech student organizations, which are affiliated with specific programs. Competitive contests provide opportunities to enhance students’ experience and to strengthen leadership skills.
A six-person team of El Reno Campus adult students captured a SkillsUSA national championship and gold medal in Atlanta. The team won for a prepared presentation of Chapter Business, which is based on demonstrated knowledge of parliamentary procedure.
The team consists Matthew Rivera, Abril Martinez, Haylee Smith, George Fields, Connor Todd and James Watson. CV Tech’s high school team placed third overall. Emma Gunn, a Rush Springs High School senior to be, was elected national SkillsUSA officer for 2024-25.
Ashley Ginter, a Yukon adult student who is enrolled in CV Tech’s Surgical Technology program, won a Future Health Professionals (aka HOSA) national silver medal in Houston for her project, “Cultural Diversities & Disparities in Healthcare.”
John Pfoutz, 20, and a Mustang adult student, captured national BPA silver medals in two categories in Chicago. CV Tech’s Opening/Closing team at the school’s Chickasha Campus also placed second overall.
All national participants must have first won an Oklahoma state championship in their respective student organizations. This year, CV Tech had several dozen state champs and a large number of runners-up.
