Gloria Nebhut did many big things well as a Surgical Technology student to wind up being chosen Student of the Year in her program at Canadian Valley Technology Center.
She did some little things very well, too, such as on a recent day at a local elementary school. Nebhut, 36, of Piedmont, was volunteering for “Beautiful Day,” an organization which provides birthday treats monthly to children at area schools.
She was spotted helping an elementary student who is still learning English to better understand the birthday activity, which includes distributing pizza and cupcakes to classmates.
Besides being recognized for her kindness and willingness to help others, Nebhut excels academically. Peers also look up to her and respect her, according to her teachers.
Nebhut was named CV Tech Chickasha Campus Foundation Outstanding Scholar, an accolade accompanied by a $1,000 check, courtesy of the school’s foundation. She is the post-secondary winner of the award. The high school recipient of the Foundation Outstanding Scholar is Callie Dornan, of Tuttle High School.
She has been focused on everything from sports at her high school to Pre-Engineering at CV Tech. Dornan has has been accepted to the Colorado School of Mines for pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.
Another scholarship recipient Mason Wood, a Chickasha adult graduate of the Precision Machining program, was presented the Superintendent’s Meritorious Award of $250. It is given each year to a graduate who overcomes a significant hardship.
