Student achievement and leadership are stressed equally with skill attainment at Canadian Valley Technology Center.
This year’s top students are examples of these principles and have accordingly been named CV Tech Foundation Outstanding Scholars. The title that also merits a $1,000 cash award, courtesy of the Foundation. There is a high school recipient and adult winner at each campus.
Savannah Long, 18, of Mustang, will soon complete the college-prep Biomedical Sciences program at CV Tech’s Cowan Campus. She has been accepted into the honors college at Baylor University, where she will as a Pre-Med student.
Long, who will also soon be a Mustang High School graduate, served as president of CV Tech’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter and was a state officer for Oklahoma HOSA this year. She is a three-year member of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), was a student ambassador and was on the Career Tech Student Organizational leadership team.
The Cowan Campus post-secondary recipient of the Foundation award is Maggie Miller, 36, of Oklahoma City. Miller’s instructor said she worked late hours to keep up with Accounting and Business Management coursework while being a wife and mother during a pandemic. She managed remote learning for herself and for her children, while also serving as a Business Professionals of America (BPA) officer two years. She also won two state champion medals in BPA competitions.
El Reno’s winners are Austin Bole, of Piedmont and Mason Hardy, of Yukon. Bole, 18, will graduate at Piedmont High School this month. He will also complete Computer Programming at CV Tech. He was a two-time state champion for C# Programming and was an ambassador and member of NTHS and BPA. He will pursue a degree in Computer Science.
Hardy, 21, completed the Auto Collision Technology program in March and went to work at Oklahoma City drone maker Kratos. He attended CV Tech using the Next Step Scholarship, which provides free tuition to students who meet certain criteria. This includes being under age 24, living within the district and having a high school diploma or equivalent. Books and fees still apply.
