Jones, Riddell Added to CV Tech Board of Education

EL RENO – Canadian Valley Technology Center has recently appointed two local businesspeople to fill vacated board of education seats.

Penny Jones, 53, of Mustang, was appointed to fill the vacated seat of former board member and Yukon attorney Margaret “Meg” Prestidge. That board seat expires in 2023.

Dean Riddell, 56, of Yukon, fills the vacated seat of long-serving board member George Fina. This term expires in 2019.

The five-member board of education is the locally elected leadership for the school, which opened in 1970 with a mission to prepare students for success in workplace education.

Jones is a homemaker who said her full-time job has been helping raise five children, along with her husband, Sean. She said she is a big proponent of the Career Tech system because of the additional educational opportunities and options the system offers students.

“I don’t have a college degree, because I have stayed home with my children my whole life,” she said. “I think Canadian Valley is a very good thing for students who maybe just don’t want to be an attorney or a CEO,” she said.

Jones’ children include a son, Jacob, who is 27. Her daughters are: Alissa, 25; Alexandria, 22; Jaci, 20; and Katherine, 13. Jones started her board seat in March.

Riddell is Branch Manager at SWBC Mortgage of Oklahoma City. He said the board of education is a natural fit.

“It falls in line with what I do for a living,” he said. “I tell my staff every day that ‘what we do every day affects people’s lives, and let’s do it right.’ That’s the same philosophy I have regarding the school.”

Riddell was recognized in 2017 for being in the top 1% of the country’s mortgage bankers. He also previously served on the board of Infant Crisis Services, an Oklahoma City non-profit organization whose mission is providing formula, food and diapers to babies and toddlers in times of crisis.

He and wife, Julie, have two grown children, Ashley and Austin, and another son, Blake, a high school freshman.
