Canadian County Education and Career Fair Sept. 6

EL RENO – The American job landscape includes a majority of people who feel no real connection to their job, according to the latest Gallup workforce survey.

Factor in 4.3 percent unemployment (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) and underemployed workers who are not maximizing their skillset. Suddenly, the American Dream is relegated to fantasy status for many.

An effort is afoot to flip those frowns. The Canadian County Education and Career Fair, set for Sept. 6 and hosted by Canadian Valley Technology Center at its El Reno Campus.

The education and career fair will feature more than two dozen vendor booths throughout the main building, said event co-organizer Lizzy Moser, CV Tech career readiness specialist.

The come-and-go event is from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and is intended anyone 18 years of age or older.

“This fits our school’s mission to prepare people to succeed through quality career and technical education programs and services,” Moser said. “But it’s also our goal to serve area communities in addition to our student base.”

Fellow event co-organizer Kati Davis, also a career readiness specialist, is a former CV Tech student who believes people often just need a means of discovering resources available to them. She suggests an event such as this will help area patrons know what else is out there.

“We’re going to have representatives from a broad spectrum, including education, military, professional and industrial,” Davis said. “This will cover a lot of career fields for anyone seeking education or employment in health careers, IT, mechanical and others.”

Staffing agencies also will be on site, she said. Moser added that the event will showcase jobs and education opportunities in Canadian County and the surrounding areas. The El Reno Campus is located at 6505 E. Hwy. 66, two miles west of Banner Road. Enter at the marquee.
