Duplicate Bridge for Beginners: Level 1
The 8 session course teaches the basics of Duplicate Bridge. Bridge is a card game employing a partnership, strategic thinking, memorization and probabilities. It is not a gambling game. In this class, you will learn how to quantify your hand, use the auction (bidding) to arrive at the best possible contract with your partner, play the hand, and employ defensive methods to defeat a contract. The course follows the Standard American Yellow Card bidding system and will cover various bidding conventions, including: Stayman, Jacoby Transfers, weaks 2's preemptive bids, Gerber, Blackwood and other related bidding items. including Alerts, Takeout Doubles, Penalty Doubles, defensive leads and basic signaling. At the completion of this course, you will be able to compete in a competitive bridge game. Each session is 3 hours long consisting of a lesson and practice. No previous experience is required. A playing partner is preferred but not required.
