Shriver Wins National Technology in Education Award
February 4, 2021 - CV Tech Admin
Canadian Valley Technology Center Health Careers instructor Benton Shriver is one of three recipients nationally of the 2021 Vernier Technology Award in the high school division.
Shriver, 42, of Oklahoma City, is a second-year instructor at CV Tech’s Cowan Campus, near Yukon. He specializes in teaching anatomy and physiology.
Each year, Vernier Software & Technology and the National Science Teaching Association recognize teachers for their innovative use of data-collection technology in the science classroom or lab. Winners receive $1,000 in cash and $3,000 in Vernier products for their classrooms.
“I love it when students are genuinely excited about learning,” Shriver said. “It is very satisfying when students discover because of our work together that they are more interested in the body and/or science than they previously realized.”
Shriver’s students regularly use technology, including iPads and Vernier Go Direct sensors. CV Tech’s Health Careers program provides the knowledge, skills and certifications required for jobs as certified nursing assistants, advanced unlicensed assistants, phlebotomists, EKG techs and monitor techs. Coursework centers on teaching students how to manage care for patients.
